Common Sense Leadership

Senator Gennaro Bizzarro represents Connecticut’s 6th Senate District, which includes New Britain, Berlin, and Farmington.

Following his election in 2019, Gennaro wasted no time becoming a leading voice against motor vehicle tolling and forced school consolidation plans.  He has been a warrior for small businesses and low-and-middle-income taxpayers, who have disproportionately borne the burden of the state’s high taxes and fees for far too long.  As the coronavirus pandemic descended on Connecticut in the Spring of 2020, Senator Bizzarro was a constant presence in the district, helping the residents of Berlin, Farmington and New Britain, and working with local leaders to ensure that critical resources reached those towns.

In addition to serving as a Connecticut State Senator, Gennaro is an attorney and founding member of GB Law Group, LLC. Gennaro also serves as Corporation Counsel for the City of New Britain, overseeing a team of municipal attorneys and advising the City, its agencies, and its Chief Executive on a variety of legal matters.  He has had the honor of serving as Corporation Counsel twice (under two different Mayoral administrations), an accomplishment that underscores his standing in the community.

Gennaro resides in New Britain, Connecticut, where, along with his wife, Kara, and his three beautiful daughters, Cecelia, Victoria, and Gigi, he believes in a Connecticut where the virtues of hard work and family values abound.  Gennaro and his children are products of the New Britain school system, and they are proud to call New Britain home.

In his private legal practice, Gennaro routinely counsels local businesses in matters spanning the full range of traditional corporate law, from general business representation to cutting edge transactional work.  As part of his private client practice, he advises individuals and closely held businesses on contract matters, real estate matters, and general business law.

In addition to his political pursuits, Gennaro is also an avid sports fan, and, as part of his private client practice, he has served as legal advisor to numerous professional athletes, coaches, entertainers, and executives over the course of his career.  Previously certified as a player agent by the National Basketball Players Association, Gennaro has reviewed and negotiated tens of millions of dollars in performance contracts, including numerous NBA and NCAA contracts, endorsement deals, and various engagement agreements.  He has served as President and chief legal counsel to the basketball division of a sports management powerhouse, and has been retained by other player representatives to consult on legal matters pertaining to their clients.  Gennaro has also served as legal counsel to numerous charitable organizations established by professional athletes and has advised on general matters related to daily operations of non-profit groups.

During his many years of practicing law, Gennaro has earned a reputation as a straight-shooting, zealous advocate for his clients, and he has brought that same passion to his civic endeavors.  In addition to serving as Corporation Counsel for his hometown of New Britain, Gennaro is very active in his community, and he has been recognized by numerous local organizations for his many contributions and achievements.  Among other positions, Gennaro has served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Greater New Britain Chamber of Commerce, and was a former Chairman of the City of New Britain Board of Finance and Taxation.

After graduating from New Britain High School, where he was a member of a Class-LL State championship football team, Gennaro received his B.A. Magna Cum Laude from Fordham University in the Bronx, New York.  At Fordham, Gennaro graduated Phi Beta Kappa and was named President of his graduating class.  Gennaro received his law degree, Magna Cum Laude, from the Quinnipiac University School of Law in Hamden, Connecticut, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Quinnipiac Law Review and received numerous awards recognizing his scholastic achievements.  After law school, Gennaro served a two-year term as law clerk to The Honorable Dominic J. Squatrito, United States District Court Judge for the District of Connecticut.

Following his United States District Court clerkship, Gennaro practiced law at Sullivan & Cromwell, LLP, in New York’s famed Wall Street district.  There, as a litigation associate at one of the world’s preeminent law firms, Gennaro represented clients such as financial services firms and international manufacturers.

Senator Bizzarro looks forward to continuing his service to the residents of Berlin, New Britain, and Farmington in Connecticut’s State Senate.
